Scott was raised in Northeastern Wisconsin by a family with strong roots in real estate and development. As the son of a second-generation realty company owner, Scott witnessed firsthand the success stories and obstacles that land development companies experience. His grandfather laid a strong business foundation for the family, starting with the sale of agricultural land, and taught Scott about business acumen, protection of private property rights, and the need for honesty in every transaction.
With these deep roots in real estate and an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin, he relocated to the Pacific Northwest to pursue his legal studies at Lewis and Clark Law School. Scott honed his legal skills through a variety of volunteer opportunities and internships with a focus on land use and federal environmental law. After receiving his JD, Scott worked at two state natural resource agencies where he gained experience in proprietary land management and administrative appeals. As staff attorney for Oregon’s Land Use Board of Appeals (2014–2017), Scott gained in-depth knowledge of Oregon’s land use laws and local government procedures. Scott has also represented community organizations in local land use proceedings and in front of the Oregon Court of Appeals through a fellowship at a Portland-based non-profit legal center. Scott joined Tomasi Salyer Martin in June 2018.
